phpMyAdmin

phpMyAdmin is a web-based interface that allows you to interact with your database through a browser. Baseline includes phpMyAdmin in the default Docker configuration to minimize initial setup overhead and provide immediate visibility into your data.

Database Integrity

While phpMyAdmin is excellent for visual inspection and quick data fixes, never use a GUI to manually alter your database schema in a production environment. Always use the Database Migration workflow to ensure your schema remains consistent across all environments.

Accessing phpMyAdmin

Once your Docker containers are running, you can access the phpMyAdmin interface via your web browser.

Accessing the Interface

The specific URL and port are defined in your compose.yaml file. By default, in a standard baseline setup, you can access the interface at: http://localhost:8080

The default root user is automatically authenticated using the environment variables configured in your compose.yaml file, allowing for immediate access without manual login.

Why use phpMyAdmin?

While Baseline encourages using Drizzle ORM for schema management, phpMyAdmin provides a low-friction way to perform visual inspections and manual data adjustments.

Using desktop clients or CLI tools often requires manual port forwarding or complex networking setups, which can be problematic when developing on remote servers rather than localhost. While Drizzle offers "Drizzle Studio" and "Drizzle Gateway", phpMyAdmin is integrated into your Docker environment, providing immediate access without the additional networking or pre-configuration requirements associated with those tools.

Removing phpMyAdmin

If you prefer to minimize the number of running containers, you can remove phpMyAdmin to save system resources.

To remove it:

  1. Open your compose.yaml file.
  2. Delete the phpmyadmin service block.
  3. Restart your containers to apply the changes:
bash
docker compose up -d
